Appreciable group, I present to you this book, which compiles the main successes and failures in the fight waged by government and health authorities, scientists, health care personnel, and the general population in the fight to survive COVID-19. The main articles in medical research that were published in that period are discussed, with some successful results and others later rejected.
The COVID-19 pandemic has tested the response capacity of government, and health authorities around the world. There are lights and shadows in logistics and epidemiological management, particularly aggravated by leaving the most important experts on the sidelines in most countries. We must highlight the commendable work of the health workers in caring for the sick, with moments of true collapse of the services. Likewise, the effort of scientists in the study of the virus and the search for effective vaccines and drugs. We dedicate a first part to the use of masks, a fundamental means of protection in such circumstances and which were used very irregularly.
The second part includes the race against time in the search for effective vaccines in the fight against COVID-19, achieved in record time. The third part of the book contains a series of articles that address the protection of the immune system against COVID through adequate nutrition, a healthy microbiota, or a good cellular immune response. A series of studies that attribute certain protection against COVID-19 through immunological mechanisms of a series of products are described. The last part is devoted to the drugs that aroused the most interest in the accelerated search for an effective treatment against the disease, most of which were ultimately rejected.
